Switching from a liquid paint to a powder coating can be beneficial to your business in a variety of ways. Powder coating is a more environmentally friendly means of painting your product. It is also more durable and resilient than traditional liquid paints. In addition, you will find that your overall productivity via throughput, storage, and transfer efficiency increases with an effective and well-built powder coating system.

Environmentally Friendly

Powder does not contain solvents and emits little to no VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), which would need to be exhausted in accordance with NFPA and OSHA standards and require local air quality regulation permits. Additionally, with powder, there is no leftover toxic hazardous waste.  There are no leftover liquids that you need to worry about safely disposing or that would end up in a landfill.

Durability

With powder, you can expect a long-lasting finish that is built to protect against the elements and harsh environmental conditions. Powder also offers a finish that is highly resistant to scratches, corrosion, and the general wear and tear that you often find in an industrial environment. Because powder is tough, the need for replacement and touch-up is significantly reduced.  This makes it an ideal coating for assemblies and equipment that see regular use or are in high-traffic areas.

Throughput

Powder coatings tend not to require as much time between processing, assembly, and shipment in comparison to liquid coatings. They cure faster, process more efficiently, and dry more rapidly than liquid coatings as well.  When spraying parts with a liquid coating it can require up to a day without handling to properly cure and be ready for assembly and shipment. However, powder-coated parts can often fully cure in ten to fifteen minutes on average.  Once they are cool enough to handle the part can be assembled and packaged immediately.

Reduced Costs

Compared to liquid painting, powder coating requires less technical prowess to achieve an optimal finish. Powder can also produce the same or better finish as liquid paint with only a single coat.  It reduces the overall consumption of your coating material when switching from liquid to a powder coating system.  This is due to the ability to reclaim and reuse powder that does not adhere to the product. A highly functioning powder reclamation system can guarantee you over powder usage of 70-95%. In addition, this higher coating efficiency will allow you to get more out of your paint storage space without the need for additional equipment that would be associated with a liquid paint system.
